Got Greens?

Got Greens? Everyone seems to be drinking greens these days, and for good reason. Not on the greens bandwagon yet? Well, let me give you something to think about.

As a holistic nutritionist, I get asked often about how important greens powder supplements are. I'm here to tell you, I don't go a day without them. Firstly, we must keep in mind greens are a "supplement" to a healthy diet. The best way to get optimal benefits from your greens powders, is by being consistent with drinking them every day. Be sure to drink the recommended dose. Greens powders offer added nutrients to your daily diet that you wouldn't normally eat like kale, spirulina, dandelion, herbs and more. They can give us prebiotics and probiotics for gut health, as well as detoxification nutrients and antioxidants. They provide us with energy and balance our ph levels.

A Healthy diet is paramount, and greens powders won't save you if you aren't mindful of that. And let's be honest, if the greens powders don't taste good, you're probably not going to drink them. I've got several containers of greens powders from various companies that are incredible as far as their value, but they taste horrid and don't mix well. I'm not able to get past the smell, let alone drink them.

So here's what I do. I like the greens powders that are either chocolate or vanilla flavored. These are usually sweetened with Stevia. I like to drink them cold, as well I like to mix them in my Ninja blender. They can mix fine in a blender bottle, but I just like how well in mixes in the blender. I also tend to add in other ingredients to my greens like chia and flaxseeds, MCT oil, almond milk to make it more rich, and I like to add in half an avocado.

Though powders do vary greatly in their ingredient lists, it's my opinion that whichever one you choose, make it the best one that you will actually drink.

As always, inspire to live healthier!
