Oils and Our aging Skin
It’s no secret that I love oils for my face and skin all over my body. I choose to work with oils because they come from natural plant sources. I’m not making any medical claims here, but they offer so many benefits from prevention of wrinkles to repairing dry, flaky skin to healing burns, scrapes and rashes. Oils are jam packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, proteins, and omega fatty acids.
Our skin naturally produces oils for various reasons like to hydrate, protect and keep our skin plump and youthful looking. Commercial lotions, creams, and soaps are always so drying to the skin, not to mention they are laden with chemicals. You may be surprised to know that many of the commercial products have alcohols in them, which is known to be drying. We’re also taught that we need strip the oils from our skin, but this actually causes a response from our body to then over-produce oils. Our body is always trying to stay in a state of homeostasis. When we use harsh chemicals and alcohols can cause an unbalance in our skin and using oils can help to re-balance that oil production. I personally can’t live without my oils. My skin just drinks them up!
Beauty, as I’m sure you know, begins on the inside with a healthful diet but outside factors also play a role. Things like smoking, drinking alcohol, poor diet and excessive sun exposure can cause a lot of damage. Here are some great benefits of using oils, like the ones made from Honey Hill Naturals, in your daily skin routine.
Oils can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The antioxidants in some of these great oils can even prevent any further aging! Oils hydrate your skin; plumping up the cells, making the skin appear smoother.
They work fabulously for dry skin but can also working seemingly just as well on oily skin for reasons mentioned above.
Oils can protect our skin, especially from all the toxic debris in the air. They’re able to penetrate deep into the skin, keeping toxins out and keeping all that moisturizing goodness in. Rosehip oil for instance, is full of antioxidant ingredients, which help to strengthen the skin barrier.
Using a good jojoba oil can help to make your pores appear smaller by pulling out all the gunk. It can also make zits disappear. Jojoba oil is said to be the closet resembling our own skin because it mimics sebum, a naturally occurring oily secretion of the sebaceous glands. Be careful though, grocery store oils will usually only clog your pores. Don’t go cheap here. I know good oils can be costly, but the result will be seen clearly as the nose on your face.
Oils can calm down rashes. Our All-Purpose Creamy Salve saved the day for my daughter-in-law who was suffering from allergic hives. When the prescribed remedy didn’t work, this creamy salve did. Within a short time, her itchy hives completely dissipated. The essential oil Geranium is fantastic at reducing redness from eczema and rosacea for example.
Oils can work great for minor burns believe it or not! I had burned 1/3 of my palm and thumb on the oven and I thought I was going to end up with blisters. I immediately used our All-Purpose Creamy Salve and reapplied every twenty minutes. I found relief quickly and by the end of the day, I forgot that I had even burned my hand.
Finally, I love so many of the oils, it’s hard to choose a favorite. All of the oils I use in the Honey Hill Naturals line are amazing, but there is a secret ingredient here you may not have expected. It’s organic beeswax! That’s right, organic beeswax is an amazing natural product for our skin. It’s a humectant, which means it pulls moisture from the air into our skin. Beeswax, at the same time is breathable, so while it protects our skin from outside toxins and irritants, it doesn’t clog up our pores like other creams and lotions do. Of all the essential oils, I would have to say these three are probably my favorites because I use so much of them:
Lavender because it’s regenerative properties in helping to suspend age spots and sun spots, wrinkles and fine lines. Frankincense because of it’s amazing properties, especially for aging skin. It can protect the skin from free radicals, minimize the appearance of age spots and scars, and it helps in tightening up the skin. Of course, my favorite property of this oil is that it has been shown to be anti-tumor. And who doesn’t need help against that! Finally, Myrrh because it also fights free radical damage and smooths out aging skin. It especially prevents under the eye and crow’s feet wrinkles.
My advice to anyone new to trying oils…a little dab will do ya. There is a big difference between using a lotion for example, that is drying to your skin. You need more of it to feel like you’re getting any of the hydrating properties. You will only need a tiny bit of oil on your finger to do the job.
