10 Changes You Can Make to Live More Naturally
10 Changes You Can Make to Live More Naturally
There are so many changes you can make to eliminate many of the toxins you come in to contact with, whether inhaled or absorbed through the skin. This includes products you use on your body as in personal hygiene products, makeup, cleansers and more. This also includes an array of cleaning products, air fresheners and more that you may use around your home as well. I’m always asked about the many things we did to “clean up” when our daughter, Tara, was diagnosed with her cancer. I am reiterating these detoxing details now as living with mthfr requires my focus these days.
I’ve put together this list of ten changes you can make to help you live more naturally that aren’t costly or complicated to prepare. You can start off using one or two of these ideas to implement each week or you can GO BIG and use them all!
· Personal Products – This includes any personal care products you use on your body, such as shampoo, conditioner, hand soaps, body washes, face creams, make-up, lip balms, deodorant, oils, lotions (including suntan lotions and self-tanners), bath bombs, perfumes, and body sprays.
· Air fresheners – These mainstream sprays and room scents are highly toxic and give off chemicals that are unsafe to breathe. Instead, use essential oil sprays and diffusers.
· Candles – Mainstream candles are just as highly toxic as air fresheners, or worse! Use naturally-made candles with no blend wax or beeswax candles, no lead wicks, and safe fragrances. Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room.
· Commercial Household Cleaners – I have done away with using all mainstream cleaners. I use instead natural products like white vinegar, borax, baking soda, and rubbing alcohol. Some like to use herbs soaked in vinegar or even essential oils. These are not only good for us but easy on the environment as well. They're cheaper on the pocketbook too.
I’ve replaced all, and I mean ALL, of my household cleaners with this natural recipe right here:
All-purpose Cleaner
In a 24 oz spray bottle, pour in
1/3 cup white vinegar
¼ cup rubbing alcohol
3 cups filtered water
This recipe makes your rooms and appliances sparkle far better than any product I’ve purchased. I also use baking soda and white vinegar to clean and clear smelly drains, scrubbing the bathtub and even cleaning the inside of the toilet! The chemical reaction of baking soda and white vinegar breaks up all the gunk and the baking soda acts as a natural scouring agent that’s so gentle; it won’t scratch your surfaces.
· Plastics – This includes all plastic bags like Ziplock and sandwich baggies, store shopping bags, plastic water bottles, bowls, containers, food wraps, plastic straws, plastic sponges, SOS pads, etc. These plastic products leach their toxins into our foods, especially when they are exposed to temperature changes like being in the freezer or standing in the heat. Use instead beeswax sheets to replace saran wrap, glass bowls, and your own reusable (and washable I might add) cloth shopping bags.
· Foil and Foil Trays/Pans – Foil is typically made from aluminum and these products leach into our foods and thus, our bodies. Aluminum is a heavy metal that goes right to the brain but can also cause chronic inflammation (the pre-cursor to all disease), heart disease, and organ toxicity.
· Non-Stick Cookware and Bakeware – These pots and pans are bad news. They are made with “forever chemicals”, which means these toxic chemicals stay in your body forever. There’s no getting rid of them! Use instead ceramic, glass, stone, stainless steel, or cast iron.
· Pesticide-sprayed and GMO foods – Eat organic, non-gmo foods as much as possible.
· Microwave Ovens – Microwaves cause damage to the nutrients in our foods in a way that our bodies do not recognize. They can even create cancer-causing agents within the foods as it is microwaved. Use a toaster oven, your standard stove top and oven, or an air fryer instead.
· Water – Drink clean filtered water, never tap water. Most of the nation’s tap water is contaminated with countless toxins from pharmaceutical medicines to bacteria. Purchase quality water bottles (the cheaper ones are usually filled with nothing more than tap water), or better yet, purchase a good quality water filter like Berkey, for your home and family.
