Benefits of the Carrier Oils and Essential Oils We Use

I found Edens Garden essential oils many years ago and I’ve loved them ever since. They pride themselves on being a family owned and women-operated business that focuses on making natural wellness affordable and accessible. I, for one, really appreciate that these women feel this way. I started really using and understanding essential oils when our daughter, Tara, was diagnosed with cancer. I was introduced to YL oils. I used them for a good year or so. I kept to the basics really, because the fact was I didn’t like the smell of most of their oils. Take lavender for example. This scent smelled so horrid to me. I thought maybe I just disliked lavender. When I began noticing other lavender essential oils, I quite enjoyed them. Today, lavender is one of my top three favorite essential oils! They can say what they want about that, but I find that I disagree. I was so glad when I discovered Edens Garden oils. They saved me and my budget! It is not my intention to knock other EO companies. I am just meaning there are so many other great quality essential oils out there to choose from.

Edens Garden states their essential oils are 100% pure, free of any fillers, synthetics, or harmful chemicals. All EO are GC/MS tested to ensure quality and safety. You can freely ask for the reports of their oils at any time. Here, I have outlined all of the oils I use in my product recipes. I have listed the descriptions right from the EO company websites. I have included their links as well.

Plant Therapy essential oils and blends are amazing as well. This is the next brand of EO that I really liked when I started branching out in my daily use of oils. This company prides itself in being a “people-first” business focused on quality and the relationship with their customers. They are very careful with the quality and safety of their oils and many of them are organic. They give a GC/MS report that also includes complete information on the plant used, country of origin, extraction method, etc.

Please see all the other organic products we use at the links listed. Check them out!

Essential Oils –

Edens Garden –

https://www.edensgarden.com/collections/single-oils/products/cinnamon-leaf?variant=3582202372

Cinnamon Leaf – A natural botanical ‘energizer,’ Cinnamon essential oil helps create an atmosphere of joy. Diffusing Cinnamon Leaf or adding it to a potpourri mix can enliven your space with a pleasing scent.

For centuries, practitioners of traditional Chinese healing arts used Cinnamon oil in herbal remedies. Some prominent soap brands add in blends of Cinnamon Leaf and Orange essential oils to create a captivating aroma.

Native to Asia, Cinnamon Leaf essential oil is derived from the leaves of unique evergreen trees through a steam distillation process. It remains in the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia today as a specific for supporting good digestive function.

Clove Bud – Cloves are often used to give aromatic flavor and aroma qualities to hot beverages, often combined with other ingredients such as cinnamon, cardamom and ginger, or many other versions of spiced teas.

Cloves can be used to make a fragrance pomander when combined with an orange. When these scented fruits were given as a gift in Victorian England, it was meant to serve as a gesture of friendship and convey sincere warmth of feeling.

Frankincense – The aroma of Frankincense is almost indescribable: aged wood, balsamic, subtly sweet with hints of citrus.

Frankincense is used in some Christian churches including the Eastern Orthodox and Catholic churches. According to the gospel of Matthew 2:11, gold, frankincense, and myrrh were among the gifts brought to Jesus by the biblical magi (wise men). Christian faiths sometimes use Frankincense to anoint newborn infants and church members entering new phases of their spiritual lives. When the essential oil is diffused, it sets a distinctive feeling of decorum, reverence, and peace.

Native to the North Africa, Frankincense is found in sunny, dry locations. The tree grows to about 20 feet and sprouts glossy leaves and white flowers. When the bark is opened, a resin pours out of the tree. Through a steam distillation process the essential oil is extracted from the resin. There are four main species of Boswellia that produce true frankincense and the grades depend on the time of harvesting and other factors. The English word Frankincense is derived from Old French "franc encens" meaning, high quality or ‘true’ incense.

Helichrysum – Helichrysum- Gymnocephalum is a breath of fresh air. Its soft, eucalyptus-like aroma opens airways, disinfects the air and clears congestion making it a great pick for overall respiratory health. Combine with other Helichrysums to create a powerful respiratory blend that doubles as a skin-nourishing serum when diluted.

Lavender –  Likely one of the most popular essential oils of all time, Lavender essential oil has an enchanting natural chemistry that exhilarates the mind and body. This 100% pure essential oil is commonly known for its calming properties and providing emotional support through lavender aromatherapy. Lavender oil can help with a variety of things from a restful sleep to helping your body's wounds heal with diluted topical application.

If you feel agitated, stressed, or having feelings of anxiety calmly inhaling Lavender’s rich and sweet-herbaceous aroma can melt away your worries. By offering balance, Lavender promotes restoration.

Although historical records don’t account for the exact moment Lavender’s many uses were discovered, it’s believed to have been cultivated in Arabia around 600 B.C. Lavender’s native range now extends across the Canary Islands, North and East Africa, Southern Europe and the Mediterranean and into certain regions of the Middle East and India.

Edens Garden’s Lavender plants are grown at high elevation and are also referred to as Bulgarian Lavender. The highest quality Lavender grows at altitudes above 2,000 feet. Lavender is an evergreen plant that grows to about 3 feet and produces gorgeous lilac-colored flowers. To extract the oil, the flowers are put through a steam distillation process.  Lavender essential oil is a pure essential oil that you will not want to live without.

Lemon – There is a reason Lemon fragrances are added to many household cleaning products. Its natural essence and crisp aroma are marvelously fresh. So, skip the chemicals and give Lemon oil a try.

When used in aromatherapy, the Lemon essential oil scent can uplift sullen moods and inspire positive thinking. Sourced from the romantic lands of Italy, Edens Garden essential oil is the highest quality available.

Lemon trees reach about 20 feet in height and grow serrated leaves, thorns, and fragrant flowers. The citrus fruit is high in vitamin C. To extract the citrus oil, the Lemon peel is cold pressed.

Lemongrass – Its purifying qualities can make profound change. Additionally, Lemongrass can provide emotional calm through its earthy citrus aroma. Inhaling a few drops of Lemongrass or adding it to a bath can ease the nerves and provide mental clarity.

The entire plant, a tufted grass with numerous stiff stems, is put through a steam distillation process to extract the oil. Lemongrass is a sensational addition to citrus or floral blends.

Myrrh – Discovered more than 3,700 years ago, Myrrh oil was used by the Ancient Egyptians during the embalming process and in perfumery and cosmetics. Known for its healing properties, Myrrh essential oil is a popular skin care ingredient used to soften fine lines and promote healthy skin.

The Myrrh tree is a petite shrub with knotted branches, trifoliate aromatic leaves and small white flowers and comes from the Commiphora specific. A natural oleoresin exudes from the trunk, producing a pale-yellow liquid which hardens into reddish-brown tears, known as Myrrh.

Native along the Red Sea region in Somalia, Yemen and Ethiopia, small incisions are made into the bark of the trees to increase the yield. The gum resin is put through a steam distillation process to extract and bottle Myrrh essential oil.

Peppermint – Peppermint’s cool and clearing aroma is refreshing with minty layers of sweetness. For aromatherapy, diffuse Peppermint near your desk or gently inhale it to eliminate feelings of grief, worry or heaviness.

A cross between a number of wild mints, Peppermint was first widely discovered in the 17th century. The peppermint plant grows up to 3 feet and has purplish stems and pale-violet flowers. The entire plant is put through a steam distillation process to extract the mint oil which pairs well with other essential oils, such as Frankincense oil, Tea Tree oil and Lavender essential oil.

Ravintsara – Ravintsara can support the circulatory system and enhance the immune system. Ravintsara is very distinct from Ravensara essential oil. The two have unique aromas and work differently in most uses.

First carried of the United States in the early 19th Century, Ravintsara grows in the Southern regions -- especially Florida. A magnificent evergreen tree, Ravintsara produces waxy leaves that have a camphorous aroma when bruised. During the springtime, the tree sprouts pretty white flowers. The leaves are put through a steam distillation process to extract the essential oil. Edens Garden’s Ravintsara includes Camphor as its main constituent.

Rose Geranium – This unique variety of Geranium is distilled from the leaves of the Pelargonium roseum plant. Rose Geranium essential oil is often used in aromatherapy to encourage serenity and a balanced emotional state due to its wonderful aroma. In addition to being used as a tonic to help promote reproductive health, Rose Geranium essential oil is effective in skincare. Rose Geranium oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help calm skin inflammation and irritation.

Rosemary – Its slightly floral, herbaceous aroma can sharpen blurry thinking and increase mental stimulation. Rosemary dates back to the Ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks who all considered it sacred. It was also widely used to cleanse the air and prevent sickness from spreading.

Native to the Mediterranean coastline, Rosemary is a shrub that grows up to six feet tall. Its name means “dew, sea” from the Latin words “ros” and “marinus” which refers to Rosemary’s spread along the sea. Only the leaves are put through a steam distillation process to extract Spanish Rosemary essential oil. Several varieties of Rosemary get produced during the process and should be noted by their differences.

Spearmint – For thousands of the years, Spearmint’s medicinal and therapeutic properties have been explored. The Ancient Greeks used it to restore the body while adding a lovely fragrance to their bathwater.

A hardy branched herb that produces bright green leaves, Spearmint also sprouts colored flowers and slender cylindrical spikes. The flowering herbs are put through a steam distillation process to extract the oil, which can add a minty note to floral essential oil blend.

Sweet Orange – Possessing a citrusy and tart aroma, Sweet Orange uplifts your emotions while sweeping away stress. Extraordinarily, Sweet Orange stirs up both calming and joyful sensations because of its antidepressant and stimulating properties. It can also work as a secret weapon in the kitchen against stubborn grease stains.

There are numerous cultivated varieties of Sweet Orange such as Jaffa, Navel and Valencia. The small evergreen Sweet Orange tree is less hardy than the bitter variety and has fewer spines. To extract the essential oil, the peel of the Oranges is put through a cold-pressed process and bottled for your delight.

Tea Tree – Organic tea tree oil can be used dozens of ways from managing acne to soothing itchy insect bites to treating nail fungus. There's little that this beloved aromatherapy oil can't do.

First named and described in 1770 by Captain Cook, Tea Tree was originally brewed as a tea and had long been used for medicinal purposes by indigenous tribes. The evergreen tree is native to Australia in wet lowland locations and grows about 10 to 25 feet. The Australian tea tree has papery white bark, dark-green needle-like leaves and colorful flowers.

Tea Tree belongs to a family of about 200 species of evergreen trees. The leaves are steam distilled to extract the clear pure essential oil.

Wintergreen – Used in toothpastes, chewing gum and root beer, Wintergreen yields about .5 percent essential oil. Native to North America, Wintergreen grows up to 6 inches and has deep-green leathery leaves that sprout small white flowers and develop into red fruit. The leaves are put through a steam distillation to extract the essential oil.

Wintergreen is incredibly powerful, so only use it with caution in small amounts. Edens Garden Wintergreen oil is very pure and in addition to being GC/MS tested, it is also natural isotope tested to ensure its high quality.

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Olive oil is high in healthy fatty acids, anti-inflammatory compounds, and antioxidants. Not only does consuming real extra virgin olive oil benefit your heart, brain, and mood, but it can also be used as a carrier oil to help hydrate your skin, speed up wound healing and even help to fight infections.

Research suggests that olive oil may serve as a promising treatment for skin related conditions like seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, and atopic dermatitis. It helps to improve these skin issues by reducing inflammation and fighting the growth of bacteria.

https://draxe.com/essential-oils/carrier-oils-for-essential-oils/

Organic 100% Pure Avocado Oil – This is a clean, light oil and is one of my go to oils for cooking. Refined avocado oil has a high smoke point of at least 400 degrees Fahrenheit. “Avocado oil is a rich source of beneficial nutrients that can help to improve the state of your skin. For starters, this fruit-derived oil (yes, avocado is a fruit!) is rich in oleic acid, a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid, and linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid. There are a wide range of avocado oil benefits for skin whether you’re dealing with basic dryness or a more serious skin concern like psoriasis.”  - Dr. Josh Axe

Some of the benefits include moisturizer for dry skin, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, fights free radicals, helps soothe sunburn, and may improve psoriasis. This is an amazing oil that I believe is sometimes overlooked.

https://draxe.com/beauty/avocado-oil-for-skin/

Organic Virgin Coconut Oil - Coconut oil serves as an effective carrier oil because it has a low molecular weight, allowing it to penetrate your skin on a deeper level. It also contains saturated fats that help the skin to stay moisturized, while helping to provide a smooth and even skin tone. In addition to this, coconut oil has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, so it’s the perfect carrier oil for relieving skin conditions like acne, eczema, and cold sores.

A randomized double-blind controlled trial sought to determine the efficacy of virgin coconut oil in treating mild to moderate xerosis, a medical term that’s used to describe dry, rough, itchy, and scaly skin. Thirty-four patients were randomized to apply either coconut oil or mineral oil on their legs twice a day for two weeks. Researchers found that coconut oil and mineral oil had comparable effects, and both were able to improve symptoms of xerosis without causing adverse reactions.

As a carrier oil, coconut oil uses for skin are numerous.
